SHARING POSITVE JOB STORIES
Daily, I am getting feedback that many of you bloggers as well as my clients are getting various kinds of jobs...very positive information!
What about you? Do you have a positive story to share? Let's read it and share it with the over 40 blogger community. Many of you have made strategic decisions to take a job at a lower level from your previous job; some of you are working part time to get income and make connections; some of you are doing temp work; and some of you are doing volunteer projects.
There are many ways of getting going and we want to hear what YOU are doing. Post your story - you may be doing a great service for others who need some motivation!
Have a great Super Bowl Weekend! Look forward to reading your work stories and suggestions.
BE CONFIDENT: IT DOES WORK!
Many of you have heard the phrase "be confident" more times than we can count! And, I believe most of us agree that it is critical to any aspect of our lives. Well, now that us mature workers are competing with a sizable number of unemployed, and "younger", workers for jobs, we need to dust off our attitudes and perceptions about ourselves.
This is a time to trust in your experience and ability as a worker with a trackrecord. Remember the employer wants a worker that adds value, and you certainly can make a case for what you have accomplished in your previous job or jobs. Although some employers will definitely consider your age as a negative, there will be others who will fairly assess each job applicant for how well they will fit in and do the job.
So, trust your judgement and present yourself as an individual who wants to work, who is a team player and who exceeds the job requirements.
Maturity is power!!
Have a great day!
BLOGGER"S COMMENT IS HOPEFUL!
Kudos to Sharon, a fellow blogger, who responded to my journal, "Things are Quiet". Please read her comments at the end of the journal piece - she has many sensible points for all of us at this time.
First, let's remember that we are NOT alone in our feelings or worries. Many of you as Sharon says, "are holding your breadth"! Now is the time to deep breathe and focus on reaching out. Networking websites are very useful and credible. I have mentioned LinkedIn before and Sharon mentions it in her comments. So, if you don't know much about these sites, please check this out today...this can be a positive step to making new relationships and finding some job leads.
Yes, people are still getting jobs. In fact a former grad school friend wrote me to share that she got a full-time job after 13 years of parttime and self-employment. Yippee! Hope springs eternal!
So, let's hear from you - post your comments - let's keep the dialogue going. Thanks, Sharon...and we know there are other "Sharon's" out there to hear from...have a great day!
THINGS ARE VERY QUIET!
Many of you bloggers have become very quiet these days. Many of you tell me that you are really worried about your work situation or the fact that you will never get a job in these times!
I hope you will focus on your family and friends this holiday and try not to get too down about your own situation. No matter who you talk with, everyone has their story...so share yours because you may find you feel better when you do.
Let me hear from you - post your story on the comments section so our blogger community can respond.
Have a great weekend!
MAKING ENDS MEET!
Recently many of you bloggers and several of my clients have taken hourly part-time jobs for the Holiday Season. Getting work in tough times gets even tougher for the over 50 worker - do you agree?
To make ends meet and stay sane, many of you say that even though the pay minimal, the benefits to your attitude is significant. Yes, I agree - getting out there is better than sitting home worrying and being depressed.
I also hear from many of you that you are open to a "makeover" - remember the emphasis awhile ago to seek a "younger appearance"?? Well, now it is very important in general. Do you look and feel healthy? This really can influenc whether or not you appear to be employable! What do you think?
Hope to hear what you think - you are great at sharing your ideas.
Have a great day!
